Markus Wiehler

Berlin- Driver

At Wilde Relocation, we believe that a new beginning deserves a warm welcome. That’s why we’re one of the very few relocation agencies — perhaps the only one — with our own dedicated driver at our HQ office in Berlin. From the moment our clients land at the airport in Berlin, they’re not just picked up; they’re cared for.

Our exceptional Berlin driver ensures a smooth and friendly start: greeting clients at the arrivals hall, helping with luggage, driving them safely to their new home, and even offering personalized orientation tours through Berlin. To give you a glimpse behind the wheel of this unique service, we sat down with our driver for a short interview about what it’s like to be the first friendly face newcomers meet in their new city.

A Typical Day with Markus
Markus’s days are never the same. From airport transfers and orientation tours to moving assistance and key handovers, he ensures every part of the relocation process runs smoothly.

Welcoming New Arrivals
After a long flight, clients may feel exhausted or eager to explore Berlin. Markus adapts his approach based on their mood, ensuring a warm, reassuring welcome. “It’s about reading the client’s energy and providing the right balance of guidance and calm,” he says.

Orientation Tours – A Personalized Introduction to Berlin
Markus doesn’t just drive clients to their apartments—he gives them tailored orientation tours of the city. These tours can include visits to schools, kindergartens, cultural spots, restaurants, parks, and more. He works closely with our Consultants to design each tour based on the client’s interests—whether they are families, singles, art enthusiasts, or food lovers.

First Impressions of Berlin

Newcomers are often surprised by Berlin’s abundance of green spaces and the diversity of its neighborhoods, known locally as Kiez, as Markus explains. Although he doesn’t stay involved long enough to see where clients ultimately decide to settle, he often notices which areas capture their hearts right away.

Favorite Spots in BerlinMarkus’s favorite area to introduce to newcomers is Berlin-Mitte, the neighborhood he calls home and enjoys exploring. He also loves recommending local gems such as Strandbar Mitte, Clärchens Ballhaus, and Märchenhütte—wonderful spots to experience Berlin’s unique culture and atmosphere.

The Joy of Guiding Newcomers
“The moment I pick up a client at the airport is always a mix of excitement, nerves, and relief. My main goal is to get them safely to the car and radiate calm,” Markus shares. His clients often leave feedback thanking Wilde Relocation for the smooth and welcoming start to their life in Berlin.

At Wilde Relocation, we are proud to offer such a personal, high-touch service. With experts like Markus, newcomers don’t just arrive—they feel at home from the very first moment.

Verena Knels

Berlin-
Family Consultant

Starting relocation in 2010 including homesearches I specialised in family services a couple years ago. While working and living as an expat is much more common nowadays the worry for the well being of your little ones stays the same in any country. It’s great to lessen these worries and make families enjoy the process.

â–¸ What do you enjoy most about working with international families?
Starting in a new city with children is still the biggest adventure in a child’s world. It’s great to help a family getting on top of it. If your child is unhappy no great job is able to eliminate this.

â–¸ What challenges do you often face when helping families relocate to a new country?
Different school and education systems can make it more complex to adapt especially with older children.

â–¸ Do you have a particularly memorable experience with a family you’d like to share?
I’ve seen a number of older children adamantly working on their school careers to catch up with a new school system that left me deeply impressed.

â–¸ What tips do you have to help families and children feel at home quickly

Use kindergarten and school contacts to get into contact with other parents. Other families are a vital key to feeling at home quicker.

â–¸ What are the most important aspects to consider regarding schools or childcare?
Prepare children as best as possible e.g. start learning German together as a family, even if it’s only a tiny bit and even if the parents can work in an English language company.

â–¸ How do you make the relocation process as stress-free as possible for families?
I try to explain the system as best as possible and make sure we process the applications we need right at the start.

â–¸ Are there cultural differences you notice often, and how do you handle them?
Most cultures have a certain approach to education and children growing up. Germans let their children become quite independent from an  early age which can be a little frightening at first.

â–¸ In which city are you mainly based, and what do you appreciate most about it?
I am a Berliner and also raised my own kids in the city. Berlin has a surprising variety of activities suitable for children. Not only playgrounds, but lakes, woods and parks, even museums just for kids. The possibilities are endless during every season.

â–¸ Is there a favorite spot in your city you’d recommend to new families?
My recommendation is always to get to know your district, or as we say here, the “Kiez” that you’ll live in. Walk around and explore together, don’t shop online, but visit shops near you, enjoy the markets and go out for dinner.

â–¸ How did you become a Family Consultant?
In my family my German-Irish cousins were raised in different countries, like Kenia and Great Britain so I had real life experiences early on when it came to different education systems.

Berlin - Home Search

I came to Berlin as an expat myself.

I know how challenging it can be to move to a new city, and even I had a home search consultant when I moved back to my home country in 2016.

Furthermore, I worked for bigger companies as a compensation & benefit manager and helped expats transfer from one country to another on paper.

Supporting expats now in real life, accompanying them to viewings, and helping them settle down in a new environment is making my job life even more interesting and fulfilling.

â–¸ What makes the perfect apartment or house for you?

This is a very individual question. What may be perfect for me may not be so important for my clients. That's why I offer “first calls” where I can find out how familiar my client is with the city.

What are the expectations and ideas of their perfect apartment? How do these expectations fit into the reality of Berlin?

â–¸ Which city or neighborhood in Germany do you find most exciting to live in?
I could live in many other cities in Germany, but as I moved to Berlin in 2016, I would highly recommend this city to any of my friends. And the good thing about Berlin is that I could live in almost any district of Berlin. You just need to know where the nicer streets of that districts are, and here I can see one of the biggest advantages of having me as a home consultant.

Berlin is not like any other bigger capitals. We have a special history, and this still reflects the different areas and apartment styles. My passion is to explain to my clients how Berlin really works. What can you expect from Berlin compared to where you are coming from?

â–¸ Do you have a favorite project or memorable story from your work?
One of my clients was so happy about the home search that he asked me to become the godfather of his newborn.

â–¸ How do you find the right property for even the most demanding clients?
I spend much time listening to what the client is looking for. If I see that it will be challenging to meet their expectations, I give them examples of apartments in their preferred areas (desired size and budget) and try slowly to adjust their expectations to the real market of Berlin.

â–¸ What tips would you give to expats to navigate the housing search?
In Berlin, most of the landlords and agencies are using the website immobilienscout24.de. It is a good platform to get used to the areas, prices, and sizes. Create your own filter on this website and get push-up notifications about apartments that meet your expectations and criteria. Then use some time and take a look at the surroundings of the apartments you like.

Every vibe of the district is very different from the others. You need to get a more profound understanding of the neighborhood. Is this an area I could see myself living in? Would it be worth it to pay a little more for another area? Do I really need such a big apartment?

â–¸ What motivates you every day as a Home Search Consultant?
To see the look in my clients' eyes when they get the keys to their new home.

â–¸ In which city do you mainly work, and what makes it special for you?
I am specialized in Berlin, and I love this city, as you can live your lifestyle in thedistricts that fit you the best.

â–¸ Is there a place in your city you would recommend new clients to visit?

There are simply too many places to list them all here. I highly recommend riding around on a bicycle to get a better feel for the size of the city and perhaps discover some hidden gems along the way.
