Radio and Television License Fee (Rundfunkbeitrag)
In Germany, all households are required to pay a radio and television license fee. This fee finances public broadcasting based on a contribution model.

Basic Rule
One apartment = one fee.
If several people live together in one apartment, only one person pays the fee — regardless of:
-
how many people live there, or
-
how many devices are used.
This also applies to shared apartments (Wohngemeinschaften).
It does not matter whether you actually own or use a television, radio, smartphone, tablet, or computer. The contribution is mandatory for all adult residents, companies, and institutions in Germany.
This system ensures that everyone can access independent, high-quality public broadcasting, while keeping financing fair and transparent.

Payment Amount per Household
-
EUR 18.36 per month, or
-
EUR 55.08 per quarter
If you maintain a second household in Germany, the fee must be paid twice.

Reductions and Exemptions
Students, persons with disabilities, or unemployed persons may qualify for a reduced fee or exemption under certain conditions. This must be requested in writing and supported with official proof.
Registration
Once you move into your permanent residence, you must register your address with the Broadcasting Fee Office. This can be done online:
https://www.rundfunkbeitrag.de/buergerinnen_und_buerger/formulare/aendern/index_ger.html
If the permanent home search service has been booked for you, WILDE Relocation will handle this registration on your behalf. This helps you avoid reminders and additional late fees.

Important Note
The Broadcasting Fee Office receives address data from local registration authorities. If you do not register and pay, they will contact you automatically and may charge reminder or penalty fees.
