The Central Office for Foreign Education has digitalized the process for applying for a certificate evaluation. The documents can now be uploaded online and no longer require to be sent to the authority by post.
What is a Statement of Comparability?
The Statement of Comparability is an official document issued by the ZAB ("Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesen"
- Central Office for Foreign Education) that describes the foreign higher education qualification and its professional and academic usage.
The ZAB Statement of Comparability can facilitate access to the German labour market for holders of foreign higher education qualifications. It is a comparative assessment but not a recognition certificate
How to apply:
1. Go to the following website and do the "pre-check":
https://zab.kmk.org/en/app/pre-check/pre-check
2. After the pre-check, a list of required documents will show up – these need to be uploaded later
3. Apply online by clicking on the button on the right top "apply here"
4. Click on the button “login or register” – you will be forwarded to the official website of “BUND” to create an account.
5. You are now on the website of the "BUND" - click on the Button "create account"
6. Choose Username & Password and create account
7. After registration you need to check your emails and click on the confirmation link
8. You can now log in with your individual federal ID account on the ZAB website and complete the registration: https://zab.kmk.org/de/login
Every time you want to use the personal area on the ZAB website, you have to log in with your BundID.
If you have forgotten your personal login details, it is possible to request a new password in the registration form on the BundID website.
9. Fill out the application form

10. Upload the documents as per the pre-check you have done at the beginning

The first Statement of Comparability costs 200 EUR

Each additional Statement of Comparability costs 100 EUR per application, for instance the evaluation of a second university degree

How can I check the status of my application?

Log in to your account on the ZAB website: My Account.

Click on My Applications for an overview of your Statements of Comparability. You can find the application status in the Status column.
